Dr. Olufunmilayo Olopade has spent her career investigating the predispositions to breast cancer throughout the African Diaspora. Her work with colleagues in Nigeria, Uganda, Cameroon, and the US has illuminated gene variants that are drivers of breast cancer development in women of African descent around the world, pointing the way to strategies for prevention and to precision therapeutics. When Dr. Rodrigo Guindalini visited the University of Chicago in 2012, his and Dr. Olopade’s shared areas of expertise created an opportunity to expand the scope of her research from Africa and the US to include Latin America.
In this webinar, Dr. Olopade and Dr. Guindalini discussed the factors that led to their joint efforts to understand the genetic predisposition to cancer and shared how their careers as researchers and practitioners have benefited from international collaboration.
