Partner Description: University of Chicago Research Bangladesh (URB) is a non-profit organization established by the University in 2009 that offers state-of-the-art population, clinical and molecular laboratories in more than 50,000 sq-ft of spaces in 6 buildings with >300 staff. It has partnered with various US and Bangladesh institutions, one of the main istitutions being BSMMU, to implement large scale collaborative biomedical and public health research. URB is under the direct supervision of its Principal Investigator and Executive Director, Dr. Habibul Ahsan.

Language: The official language of Bangladesh is Bengali, although English is the second language and what is widely used in the medical settering.
Project Description: The University of Chicago was awarded nearly $20 million through a number of NIH grants to fund URB's biomedical and social research activities. Research is primarily centered on the health effects of water pollution, environment and related health concerns, and chronic disease. Students should have a research project in mind in one of these areas when applying in order to take full advantage of the available resources.
