Language: The official language of Bangladesh is Bengali, although English is the second language and what is widely used in the medical setting.
Project description: The University of Chicago has established an administrative and biomedical research entity in Bangladesh for conducting public health and biomedical research projects using state-of-the-art population, clinical, and molecular laboratories in more than 50,000 sq-ft spaces in 6 buildings employing >300 staff. The University of Chicago is currently awarded nearly $20 million from US National Institute of Health to conduct biomedical research projects in Bangladesh. Research is primarily centered on the health effects of water pollution, environmental related health concerns, and chronic diseases. Students should have a research project in mind in one of these areas when applying in order to take full advantage of the available resources.
